ZX81 Fungaloids

zx81 manual

Inspired by the remakes.org 2003 competition, I decided to rewrite the ZX81 classic Fungaloids by Michael Orwin for PC without needing an emulator.

The game had ranked in my top five ZX81 games as a boy, along with MAZOGS, GULP2, 3D Defender and 3D Monster Maze. I hope the game reawakens the early enthusiasm we had as youngsters for these very basic but distinctive games at the start of the home computing era.

Retro remakes comments: Toker - 'I have fond memories of my ZX81 and the ground breaking games. Sure they uses rudimentary graphics and no sound but hey back then .... anyway this recreates that atmosphere superbly, believe it or not the gameplay is soooo addictive'. Hitman - 'I wish i'd had this when i had a ZX81 as its one of those that would have been loved by many people. It plays, looks and feels like a real ZX81 game. Bomb the towers, dodge the meanies and watch your fuel sounds simple enough, but its really quite hard.'

The game is programmed using Delphi 7.

Ian Munro wrote 'I just tried out your ZX-81 game - I think its very good. My first computer was a ZX-81 followed by a Spectrum then an Amstrad CPC. It's nice to see "old" games being re-written. I wrote the game "Virgin Atlantic Challenge" for the Spectrum and Amstrad many many years ago..'
